New Show at the Stables in Exile Gallery, 23rd of April to 3rd of May

 

I went to Australia last month, it was ace. I'd never been so far away in my life and I hate flying so that was a bit of a double whammy of dare for me. I hope never to have to do the double flight thing again (12h to China, then 9h to Melbourne), it's uncomfortable and when you finally land at the end, you feel like everything inside your skin has been put through a blender and then poured back in. Then you're all screwed up and confused with time for days, it's night when it should be day, day when it should be night. Time-travel is no fun. But hey, it's all worthwhile to get to see what's on the other side of the world. Plus my friends showed me around, and I got back with some crazy 80s vintage stock for the shop too. And now, I want to share it all with you, the city of Melbourne (founded by a guy call John BATMAN. What's not to like?!!) , the tropical forests, the drive-by shooting, the koalers and the wallabies, and the sun and the rain from the country of surf and racism (hum yeah there's a bit of that too).

I'm showing two pieces there at the moment, 'A Hundred Ghosts' and 'Death, Dreams & Other Revelations' [notebooks, 2008-2009]. Show is on until the end of the week.

The Water-Lily Pond to be exhibited at Electric house this week.

Maytal Hillel and myself have been making some art in the winter of 2013. The best and only piece we came up with and managed to finish, The Water-lily Pond, [mix
of found art and collage], a comment on the way images are circulated in the modern world, is to be exhibited courtesy of the Stables in Exiles art group at the Chrysalis exhibition taking place at Electric house in Willesden Green this week.

Photomonth Photofair Centrepoint Stall!

Oy vey! it's this time of the year again...Halloween is coming soon...and in the meantime, it's Photomonth in the East End! Plenty to see around there including more than 150 shows...amongst which is the Photofair. It takes place in Spitalfields Trader's Market and we have a stall with our name on it!

The Life of Others. Centrepoint Collective show in Manchester this month.

Centrepoint Collective's upcoming exhibition will be held at MMU (Manchester Metropolitan University). The show is entitled 'The Lives of Others' and it is based on a variety of topics such as immigration, identity, place, being, etc. We hope that you can come along to enjoy the show. Centrepoint Collective proposes an inclusive and multicultural vision on photography. We are an emerging collective of international artists seeking to initiate, develop and deliver exciting and innovative visual arts projects and exhibitions. "I Always Never" Installation at the Schwartz Gallery

Life. Constant choices. 3 keys, invisible doors, 42 bottles.
"I Always Never" was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the scene in which she has just fallen in the rabbit hole, and must find a way out of there. She has one little "drink-me" bottle on a glass table and a key next to it. We all pretty much know this story so I'll get straight to my own interpretation.
Consider this. You are Alice and the Rabbit Hole is your life. you must get to the next stage and in order to do so you must get the key. To get to the key you must drink from the bottle until you get to the right height.If you already are the right size, good on you, but who knows what the door looks like?
Now, just to make it a little more complicated, there are 42 bottles (a little wink at Douglas Adams) and 3 keys. Which is the right one? yours to find out. The possibilities come in large numbers.
Ok let's say you finally managed to drink from the right bottle, you could grab all three keys, that makes,of course, the most sense, and now you gotta find the door...

Now that the show is over, and at some point in time, I will give the bottles away, so my piece lives on, different stories... So if you fancy a couple, get in touch.

Second show at the Granville Hospital.

This one is a much smaller display of 7 photos (previously 8 but I got lucky and sold one on the first day before they got to this wall!) These are just seaside landscapes with a dark side. I worked the skies so they end up looking heavy and threatening as in Before the storm or dreamy and crooked as in after, hence the name.

Another show...in France this time!

So it's a busy time for me right now, I should be putting up my installation at the Schwartz Gallery tomorrow, and thank god, at least the work is ready (almost!).
Meanwhile, I'm organising the next show of the Centrepoint Collective, in France this time!!!
In the pretty seaside city of Granville, in Normandy, which also happens to be my hometown.
We have a space at the hospital. It's a place that has played host to a few important dates in my family's history...apart from the countless times we had to be taken to the emergency unit as kids,both my brothers were born there and my dad and his dad died there, so I have to say this will tip the balance back and add happy memories to my perception of the place. My first show in France! and the first Centrepoint Collective's show outside of England! That's all pretty cool. The private view is set for next Wednesday night, the 5th of May.
I hope it goes well.

Next Show Next Week!!!

Well, after the last Centrepoint Collective show at SOAS (the coolest uni in the world!), that was last week, I'll put a link to the pictures after this, there's the next show I'm participating in. It's called A-L-L-O-T-M-E-N-T-S, because the concept was to allow every tenant of 92 Whitepost Lane, of which the Schwartz Gallery is part, to get their bit of gallery corresponding to their unit in order to show their work as long as it was fine art-related.
So I made this installation about choices in Life and the fact you never really know whether you make the right one until later (ah! the wisdom of hindsight...).
I shall tell more about it in my next blog.
Oh by the way, it's called "I Always Never".
Come and see it along with lots of other cool stuff which I shall discover with you on the 29th of this month, which is actually this thursday. Private view is 6 to 10pm at the famous Schwartz Gallery, 92 Whitepost lane, Hackney Wick.

Centrepoint Collective Debut

Last year, these kids started an art group with me,
and decided to name it the Centrepoint Collective,
because we're all from different places, and we all found ourselves in London at some point,met here, live here, make this our base.
We're planning to have a show in Mexico by the end of the year, but before that, we thought we should start here and see how we work together. And so far, the answer is : well!
I'm very proud and delighted to present our very first show ever as the Centrepoint Collective.

"Seven Views" a show about Identity, seen through our 14 eyes.
